Playa Wetlands Research Institute
We have a vision to establish the Playa Wetlands Research Institute at Watersong as part of our capital campaign
The Playa Wetlands Research Institute will be housed in the new facilities and will establish the sole repository for playa research. Watersong’s playa is one of many that recharge the Ogallala Aquifer. The Ogallala Aquifer is one of the world’s largest and underlies portions of eight states: Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska, and South Dakota. Currently, playa wetlands research is scattered across the eight states, and there is an opportunity to centralize and grow that knowledge, research, and expertise in Midland. Establishing this Institute would also open up many partnerships with higher education and research organizations that will enhance our offerings across Watersong.
