Higher Ed & Corporate Collaborations

At Watersong, conservation is a collective effort

Our partnerships with universities, colleges, and corporate leaders create opportunities for hands-on service learning, community engagement, and meaningful contributions to the long-term health of our urban playa. These collaborations not only strengthen our ecosystems but also deepen the connection between people and place.

Service Learning with UTPB & Midland College
Through service-learning programs, students from The University of Texas Permian Basin (UTPB) and Midland College bring fresh energy, research skills, and curiosity to Watersong. From ecological monitoring to resource management, students gain real-world conservation experience while advancing their academic goals. Their work builds a bridge between higher education and community stewardship.

ConocoPhillips Butterfly Garden Refurbishment
In partnership with ConocoPhillips, our beloved Butterfly Garden received a full refurbishment. This project enhanced native plantings, expanded habitat for pollinators, and created a welcoming space for visitors of all ages to observe butterflies in action. The collaboration highlights how corporate support can directly improve biodiversity and public education spaces at Watersong.

H-E-B & Texas Recycles Day
Local businesses also play a key role in fostering sustainability. H-E-B has supported community-driven projects, including initiatives that connect families with healthy outdoor living. On Texas Recycles Day, corporate partners and volunteers come together at Watersong to promote waste reduction, recycling, and resource conservation — underscoring that small actions at the community level can make a big impact.

A Shared Commitment to Conservation
These collaborations embody the spirit of Watersong: partnerships rooted in stewardship, education, and care for the land. By working alongside universities, students, and corporate partners, we strengthen both our ecosystems and our community.
